Get involved

Hello and thank you for your interest in the @BasquesAbroad project. If you would like to get involved and be one of the contributors please keep reading.

The plan is straightforward, you will be tweeting from @BasquesAbroad about all things Basque for one week, after that you'll hand it over to someone else who will tweet for a week.

The idea behind it is to promote Basque culture and national identity within the English speaking world. You are more than welcome to get involved as long as you see yourself as Basque, regardless of your legal nationality, where you live or where you were born. Basque people come from many different backgrounds.

Guidelines and a few rules ahoy!

Some basic ground rules:

Keep your tweets in English, the whole point is to reach out to English speaking people and make this a global project. Of course some words in Euskara here and there are absolutely fine.

Respond and engage with your followers as much as you can. It's brilliant that people want to learn more about us Basques so make it interesting for them to read. Feel free to post pictures.

Please try to keep politics out of the discussion as much as possible. The idea is to promote national and cultural identity, not piss people off.

Glorification of any kind of terrorist activities is strictly off-limits. I don't care what your personal views are, throw in a 'gora ETA!' and you are out faster than you can say zazpiak bat.

Don't feed the trolls! Arguing with idiots on the internet is pointless and they'll always beat you with experience.

Use common sense. If people are likely to take offence at something then it's probably not on.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself an have fun tweeting the week away.

How to become a contributor

And now the fun part! Email me at basquesabroad at gmail dot com answering the following questions:

- Tell us about yourself and your background
- Full name (I won't publish your full name but it would help me out to keep up with everyone)
- Twitter name
- Where are you based?
- What does being Basque mean to you?
- Why do you want to contribute?

I will then set up a contributor rota, publish a short profile of yourself on the blog and email you the twitter password. You'll be tweeting from Monday to Sunday until  someone else takes over from you the following week. Simple, right?

Add your name and location to twitter (example: Basques abroad / Anna). Please don't change anything else on the twitter account (email address, password, etc), I'm sending the password in good faith and I don't want to waste time recovering it.

If you have any questions or are unclear on any point please feel free to email me.

If you become a contributor you are bound by these terms and conditions. I reserve the right to amend them at any time to suit possible eventualities.
