Week 1, Jone

We are officially launching with our first contributor from midnight tonight! Very exciting, thanks for putting up with this this past week.

And without further ado; everyone, come meet Jone.

My name is Jone and I am a Basque Abroad, you can call me J.

I came to Ireland many moons ago to learn English and haven't found my way back yet,live with my long suffering husband Up North to be precise (not quite Malin Head though!)

Although my days of "gaupasa" (all nighter) are now gone I'm still the last one to leave the party.

Food, drink and the Athletic will be my fortes,hope Olazabal will bring the Ryder Cup home and will answer all questions indiscriminately.

Kaixo! I'll be your Basque for the week until we find more people who want to tweet. I'm Anna and I'm from London. Well, I'm from Bilbao originally but I've been here long enough to see myself as a Londoner. In fact, I've lived in London longer than I've lived anywhere else but I often miss Euskal Herria.

I absolutely love the @Sweden twitter project and I would love to create something similar for the Basque country. Please get involved, we'd love to hear from you!

Kaixo and welcome to the Basques Abroad project. This is very much along the same lines of the @Sweden idea (excellent project if I may say so, please follow them on twitter if you aren't already) and will be be used to promote Basque awareness, culture and identity to English speakers.

I will publish a set of rules and guidelines on how to get involved very soon (UPDATE: Check out the 'get involved' page for info and guidelines). Essentially the idea is to tweet about your daily life, Basque issues, Basque culture etc from wherever you are in the world regardless of your legal nationality, and most importantly to have fun while doing it.
